Home Learning At Elm Academy we believe that home learning is an important part of your child’s education

We set daily and weekly home learning appropriate to your child’s ability and age.  We expect all homework to be completed and we welcome any support from home to ensure that this happens.

Reception

  • Daily Reading (10 minutes)
  • Phonics and practical homework (20 minutes)

Year 1

  • Daily Reading (15 minutes)
  • Maths and Phonics homework books will be sent home on alternating weeks with set pages for your child to complete (30 minutes)

  • Daily reading (15 minutes)
  • Weekly spellings given on Friday tested the following Friday
  • Maths and Grammar work books (alternate weeks) set on Monday and due in Friday
  • Times Table Rock stars (optional)

Any homework eg spellings, Maths and Grammar should take 30 minutes.

Year 3

  • Weekly Maths and English workbooks will be set with set pages for your child to complete.
  • Daily Reading (20 minutes)
  • Times Tables Rock stars

Any homework eg Times Table Rock Starts, Maths and English should take 40 minutes.

Year 4

  • Weekly maths and English workbooks will be set with set pages for your child to complete.
  • Daily Reading (20 minutes)
  • Times Tables Rock stars

Year 5

  • Weekly maths and English workbooks will be set with set pages for your child to complete.
  • Daily Reading – using set books from school or Reading Plus (20 minutes)

  • Weekly maths and English workbooks will be set with set pages for your child to complete.

To give pupils the opportunity to apply a range of skills from across the curriculum, each year group will be set a practical home learning activity half termly, linked to their upcoming topic. This will be communicated with parents with plenty of warning to ensure it can be completed by the deadline.
