Home Learning At Elm Academy we believe that homework is an important part of your child’s education

We set daily and weekly home learning appropriate to your child’s ability and age.  We expect all homework to be completed and we welcome any support from home to ensure that this happens.



  • Daily Reading
  • Phonics


Year 1

  • Daily Reading
  • Spellings given on Friday and tested the following Friday
  • Grammar and punctuation book set on a Monday and checked the following Monday


Year 2

  • Daily reading /Bug Club
  • Weekly spellings given on Friday tested the following Friday
  • Maths and Grammar work books (alternate weeks) set on Monday and due in Friday
  • Times Table Rock stars (optional)


Year 3

  • Monday (due the following Monday) – Maths Workbook
  • Monday (due in the following Monday) – Literacy Workbook
  • Daily Reading/Reading Bug
  • Times Tables Rock stars
  • Weekly Spellings


Year 4

  • Page in Maths book
  • Page in Grammar and Punctuation book
  • Weekly Spellings
  • Weekly timetables
  • Reading at home

All homework is sent home Friday and due back the following Friday.  Spellings and Timetables are given Friday and the test is the following Friday.


Year 5

  • Page in Maths book
  • Page in Grammar book
  • Weekly Spellings
  • Reading at home daily
  • Times tables

All homework is sent home Wednesday and due back the following Wednesday. Spellings are also given out on Wednesday and tested the following Wednesday.


Year 6

  • Monday (due Friday) – Maths
  • Wednesday (due following Wednesday) – Reading Comprehension
  • Friday (due Monday) – Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
  • Weekly Spellings
